The New Orleans Saints are in a running back quandary at the moment.
Having already lost Alvin Kamara to a three-game suspension, they’ve also lost Eno Benjamin for the season, with the former Arizona State star done for 2023 after tearing his Achilles.
The announcement was made by head coach Dennis Allen during his press conference on Saturday. Benjamin will be put through additional tests to determine the severity of the injury. However, a ruptured Achilles tendon typically calls for a year on the sidelines.
According to Brooke Kirchhofer of NewOrleans.Football, Benjamin “planted to take off on a route and immediately went down. He was carted off and didn’t return to practice.”
The RB was competing with Kirk Merrit and Ellis Merriweather for spots behind Kamara and Jamaal Williams but will instead be left to rue the untimely development.
The Saints signed the 24-year-old last year after he was waived by the Arizona Cardinals, signed by the Houston Texans, and then waived by the Texans. So the injury really comes at the worst time, right when he was trying to get his career back on track.
