Emmitt Smith knows all about being in a contract dispute with Jerry Jones.
With knowing that information, the Cowboys legend offered some advice for Dak Prescott as his contract talks with the Dallas Cowboys have lingered into the 2020 offseason. He thinks Dak should actually leave money on the table and sign at a discount.
“Dak has to understand and maybe take another perspective,” Smith told Lefkoe. “The perspective may not be all the money that you get. It may be how much money are you willing to leave on the table because the Cowboys [are] a marketable organization?”
He then spoke on him taking less because it would allow the franchise to be more flexible to sign other players.
“If you’re the face of the franchise, instead of taking $35 [million[, would you take $28 [million], and leave some for Amari and pick up the other $35 [million] through endorsements?”
The Cowboys are worth $5 billion. Dak shouldn’t feel obligated to take a discount for the honor of playing with the most recognizable team in the NFL.

Is Dak worth $40 million a year? Probably not, but he damn sure shouldn’t take less than market value to appease the team. NFL teams have shown time and time again they will dishonor a contract with a player if it helped the team.
Dak should stay true to himself and get everything owed to him.
