Mike McCarthy wants to run the ball next season. The Dallas Cowboys coach made it perfectly clear where he differed in philosophies with former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday.
McCarthy told reporters he wanted to run the ball more.
“I’ve been where Kellen has been: Kellen wants to light the scoreboard up,” McCarthy said, via the New York Post. “But I want to run the damn ball so I can rest my defense. I don’t desire to be the No. 1 offense in the league.
“I want to be the No. 1 team in the league with a number of wins and a championship. And if we have to give up some production and take care of the ball better to get that, then that’s what we’ll do.”
On Thursday’s edition of Speak For Yourself, FOX NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho took major issue with what Mccarthy stated. Mainly because running the ball doesn’t win championships anymore.
He further accused the head coach of giving more touches to Ezekiel Elliott than Tony Pollard while pointing out how much more efficient Pollard was in the running game.
“If you want to rewrite history, start by giving an accurate depiction of history. Don’t talk about how you would ‘run the damn ball more’ to rest the defense. You would rest everybody because y’all would be at home a lot sooner,” Acho said.
