Jalen Hurts has secured the most lucrative deal in NFL history, with the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback reaching an agreement over a $255 million extension with the team, according to a source cited by ESPN.
The report notes that the five-year deal includes $179.803 million in guaranteed money.
Hurts, who fired the Eagles to the Super Bowl last season, told reporters he would be patient in contract negotiations with the NFC champions, while the team also indicated that extending the QB was going to be their main priority in the offseason.
The player has now agreed to what’s the highest total in league history as his deal usurps the $230 million the Cleveland Browns gave Deshaun Watson last year, though Watson’s contract is fully guaranteed.
Hurts has also gotten a no-trade clause as part of his deal, becoming the first-ever Eagles player to receive such.
The 24-year-old threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2022, rushing for an additional 760 yards to the tune of 13 touchdowns. He was a candidate for MVP but was bested by Patrick Mahomes, who also got one over him in the Super Bowl despite Hurts’ far superior performance.
