Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat provided a positive update on his status after being stretchered off in the team’s Week 17 home game against the New Orleans Saints in a scary scene.
During Sunday’s game, Sweat had to be stretchered off with a neck injury following a scary collission with Saints fullback Adam Prentice. The 25-year-old Sweat went headfirst into Prentice when trying to make a tackle on Prentice.
Fortunately, Sweat avoided a potentially serious injury. And on Sunday evening, Sweat tweeted out that he’ll be back this season.
Per ESPN’s Tim McManus, the Eagles said that Sweat was set to be released from the hospital on Sunday evening. Philadelphia can clinch the NFC East division title next week with a win against the New York Giants or a Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the Washington Commanders.
The Eagles were upset 20-10 at home by the Saints, and the Cowboys’ road win over the Tennessee Titans on Thursday kept Dak Prescott and company alive in the race for the division title.
Sweat was drafted in the fourth round, 130th overall, by the Eagles back in 2018. The former FSU star is having his best season yet with the Eagles, with 11 sacks and one forced fumble. He broke out in 2021 with 7.5 sacks, helping Philadelphia to a surprise postseason berth.
