Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson was greeted with a warm reception in his return to Philadelphia.
Pederson, who coached the Philadelphia Eagles from 2016 to 2020, made his anticipated return to Lincoln Financial Field for the first time since he last coached the organization in 2020.
The 54-year-old Pederson received a nice ovation from the Philadelphia crowd as he made his way onto the field ahead of the Eagles-Jaguars Week 4 game.
Pederson coached the Eagles to the franchise’s first Super Bowl championship back in the 2017 season. In five years with the organization, Pederson compiled a 42-37-1 record, including two division titles and a wild card berth.
Despite his accomplishments, Pederson was fired by the Eagles after a disappointing 4-11-1 season in 2020. Nick Sirianni, who spent the previous three years as the Indianapolis Colts’ offensive coordinator, was named the Eagles’ new head coach.

The Eagles also decided to move on from former franchise quarterback Carson Wentz, who was traded to the Colts in an offseason blockbuster. The Eagles opted to move forward with 2020 second-round pick Jalen Hurts, and so far, so good.
Pederson spent a year away from coaching before taking the head coach position for Jacksonville. The Jaguars were coming off a disastrous season under Urban Meyer, who was fired following a 2-11 start after a controversy-filled season.
It’s not too often where a Super Bowl-winning head coach is fired within a few years of leading his team to the grand stage, but it definitely looks like the split was the best for both sides.
The Eagles made the playoffs in year one under Sirianni, and they jumped out to a prolific 3-0 start to the young 2022 season. After losing their first game of the season, the Jaguars responded with convincing wins over the Colts and Justin Herbert’s Los Angeles Chargers.
