Philadelphia Eagles fans have a reputation for being more impatient and hostile than most other fanbases in professional sports. On Thursday night, much of the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field lived up to that reputation.
Even though the Eagles were holding a 3-0 lead in the first quarter of Thursday night’s home game against the Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia fans mercilessly booed the offense after a sluggish start.
You don’t usually see a team get booed by their own fans unless they’re playing terribly and/or losing by any margin. The offense did get off to a sluggish start with Jalen Hurts throwing an interception to end a promising drive, but it was still somewhat surprising to see Eagles fans bring out the boo birds that early.
Philly’s offense had a sloppy Week 1 outing against the New England Patriots on Sunday. The team squeaked out a 25-20 victory, but seven of those points came off a Mac Jones pick-six to Darius Slay.
Hurts had just 170 passing yards and one passing touchdown on the day while taking three sacks and losing one fumble. Fortunately, the Eagles’ stingy secondary and prolific front seven had a superb outing to close out the nail-biter.
