Darius Slay will never forget Matt Patricia and the memories he has of him are not positive.
The Pro Bowl cornerback, who’s about to play in Super Bowl LVII, did not mince a single word when he ripped into him during Super Bowl media week. Slay was asked about the time that Patricia took issue with him working out with veteran cornerbacks Richard Sherman and Aqib Talib. This happened during Patricia’s first season as the Lions head coach in 2018.
“He basically just said, ‘You are not in that category yet,’” Slay said. “At that time, I only had one Pro Bowl but now I’m at five, so I want to know how he feels about that now. I don’t wish bad on him, but as a man, me and him just don’t get along. He’s a smart coach, he knows his Xs and Os, but the disrespect is not what I’m with.”
Slay played for Patricia for two seasons before he would get traded from Detroit to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third rounder and a fifth-round pick. After his trade, Slay went on a Detroit radio station and ripped his former head coach saying, “I didn’t have that much respect for Matty P as a person, because it was hard for me to play for him. That’s all it was.”
Slay said that he took issue with how Patricia acted like he was above the players when he arrived at Detroit.
“I mean, it was weird how he came in like he was just bigger and better than all of us,” Slay said. “He acted like we asked to be here. You know, we do get selected… That was crazy. That was a first.”

Patricia was soon fired from Detroit and returned to New England this past season. However, it has not worked out.
Slay, on the other hand, will play in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.
