All 32 NFL teams have made their fair share of regrettable trades throughout their respective histories. That’s just the nature of the business.
But in regards to more recent trades, few wound up being more lopsided than the 2021 blockbuster deal that saw the Indianapolis Colts take a chance on ex-Philadelphia Eagles’ star quarterback Carson Wentz.
After losing his starting job to Jalen Hurts late in the 2020 season, Wentz was traded to Indianapolis in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick that turned into a first-round draft choice.
And as you can see in a tweet that has since gone viral, the Eagles absolutely robbed the Colts in the Wentz trade. Incredibly, Philly GM Howie Roseman managed to land superstar wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith and Georgie defensive tackle Jalen Carter with the haul he received from Indy.
It’s no wonder that the Eagles are coming off a second straight postseason appearance as well as a trip to Super Bowl 57. As for the Colts, they had to start over at quarterback following the failed 2022 trade for Matt Ryan. They wound up using the No. 4 selection in this year’s draft on Florida Gators’ QB Anthony Richardson.
Many regard Colts’ GM Chris Ballard as one of the best in the business. But it’s safe to assume that if he had one mulligan, he would’ve used it on the Wentz trade that wound up setting the franchise back.
