At last year’s NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles pulled off a stunner by acquiring Tennessee Titans’ star wide receiver A.J. Brown in exchange for the No. 18 and No. 101 selections.
Brown was about to enter the final year of his rookie contract with the Titans. Rather than extend him, Tennessee surprisingly opted to trade Brown to the Eagles. He was then quickly handed a four-year, $100 million contract extension.
Brown was everything the Eagles could have asked for. He racked up 88 receptions for 1,496 yards and 11 touchdowns, helping the Eagles to Super Bowl 57 appearance — where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 38-35.
During an appearance on Raw Room, Brown revealed that the Kansas City Chiefs and New York Jets were among the teams that tried to acquire him via trade (Brown briefly mentions it at the 41:01 mark).
Brown could have been quite the game-changer in Kansas City or New York. Of course, the Chiefs have nothing to regret, since they wound up winning Super Bowl 57 with the new-look receiving corps that included JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and rookie Skyy Moore.
Brown and DeVonta Smith formed one of the NFL’s most dynamic receiving duos in 2022. Year one together nearly resulted in a Super Bowl title. Now we see if they can get to the mountaintop in 2023.
