EA Sports is reportedly set to remove one of their celebrations from the Madden video game following the cardiac incident involving Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin last week.
According to TMZ, the publishers will do away with the CPR touchdown celebration in the wake of Hamlin’s distress.
Said source has revealed that an EA spokesperson told them the animation will be removed as part of an update to Madden NFL 23 in the coming days.
The celebration in question is popular among gamers but, given that a player was actually administered CPR on the pitch in one of the scariest on-field incidents of recent memory, it’s probably one Madden players should steer clear of. EA, as reported, will be taking the choice away.
This is a good move from the oft-criticized video game development and publishing company, yet actual NFL players displayed a total lack of sensitivity towards Hamlin’s ordeal just this Sunday, with the Pittsburgh Steelers performing a CPR celebration after making a big play against the Cleveland Browns.

Alex Highsmith has since apologized, but the NFL could come down with some kind of punishment given how irresponsible the display was.
