As Colin Kaepernick continues to try to make a return to the NFL, many have suggested that the former star quarterback should consider playing in the XFL to prove he still has something left in the tank. However, it does not sound like that will be the case.
This week, XFL owner Dwayne Johnson seemed to shut down all of the rumors and speculation linking Colin Kaepernick to the league with his comments on Instagram.
A fan suggested on Instagram that Kaepernick should play in the XFL “if he wants to prove he still can,” The Rock replied and made it clear that he doesn’t think Kaepernick will be joining the league.
“We met with Kap and his agents (whom I like a lot) earlier this year. Good meeting, looked to create an opportunity for him but I don’t think it’ll happen. We’ll see,” Dwayne Johnson said in a comment on social media.
It seems as if the league was trying to get him to play and got turned down.
The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback wrote a lengthy letter to the New York Jets, essentially begging for a spot on the team’s practice squad, in the wake of Aaron Rodgers’ injury.

“I would be honored and extremely grateful for the opportunity to come in and lead the practice squad,” Kaepernick wrote. I would do this with the sole mission of getting your defense ready each week.”
The Jets, unsurprisingly, have not taken up Kaepernick on his practice squad offer. Kaepernick has been trying to find a spot in the NFL since his controversial exit 7 years ago.
In the meantime, the USFL and XFL put out a joint statement announcing their intent to merge.
If you were hoping to see Kaepernick on the field for the XFL, USFL, or whatever the new league will be called in 2024, it doesn’t look like it’s in the cards.
