A new lawsuit has been filed regarding the death of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins in Florida in 2022.
The former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback was fatally struck by a dump truck while walking on a Florida interstate highway. The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office said Haskins’ blood alcohol content was 0.20 when he was fatally struck on Interstate 595 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Former NFL player and current ESPN NFL analyst Ryan Clark tweeted late Sunday night that sources told him a press release is expected to announce a civil lawsuit that will reveal the events that led to Haskins’ death.
Clark hinted that Haskins’ may have somehow been targeted.
“Many questions remain unanswered & evidence may indicate that Dwayne Haskins was somehow targeted,” Clark tweeted. “The civil suit will be pivotal in uncovering information that can lead to a clearer understanding of that tragic night.”

It turns out Kalabrya Haskins, the QB’s widow, is alleging Haskins was drugged in the hours before the traffic accident that took his life. She further claims that her husband was the target of a blackmail and robbery plot and had an expensive watch stolen before he was killed.
Haskins is suing four people for battery and is suing the several establishments where Haskins was believed to have been drugged by the four for negligence by ” allowing patrons to use drugs and to drug other patrons, including [Dwayne].”
At the time, a report stated investigators found Haskins’ car out of gas near where he was hit. A woman he was with told investigators Haskins had gone to get fuel. Witnesses said he was trying to wave down cars and standing in the center lane when he was hit by the truck and then an SUV. The report said he died of blunt force trauma.
Haskins was said to have had the strong painkiller ketamine and its metabolite norketamine in his system. Steelers told investigators that Haskins had no mental health issues and had never made any suicidal threats. They did state that he did sometimes drink heavily and sometimes used marijuana, but was not known to use any other recreational drugs.
Haskins had been in South Florida training with some of his Steelers teammates. The report said Haskins had gone to dinner with teammates and then to a club with a friend or cousin. However, the two of them got into an argument and separated.
At the time of his death, Haskins had been on the phone with his wife, Kalabrya, back in Pittsburgh shortly before he was struck, telling her he had run out of gas. She was frantic about his whereabouts as she told 911 she was worried when he didn’t call back and wasn’t answering her calls. A recording of the 911 call had her praying after the dispatcher put her on hold to find out if anything had been reported. The dispatcher then told her to stay by her phone and that someone would contact her.
Haskins starred at Ohio State in 2018. A 2019 first-round NFL draft pick by Washington, Haskins was released by the team after going 3-10 over two seasons. He was signed by Pittsburgh as a developmental QB.
