An attorney for deceased NFL quarterback Dwayne Haskins has filed a lawsuit suggesting that the former player’s death was not an accident.
This past Sunday marked a year to the day when Haskins died after being struck by a dump truck on a highway in Miami. Now a year removed, the QB’s family is still trying to find answers, with the incident the subject of much speculation.
Haskins’ lawyer, Rick Ellsley, has issued a statement to the Washington Post’s Les Carpenter which claims that the truck diver should bear liability while also suggesting that, based on unseen evidence, Haskins’ death came as a result of blackmail.
“It is believed that Dwayne was targeted and drugged as part of a blackmail and robbery conspiracy,” the statement reads. “In fact, his highly-expensive watch was stolen from him shortly before his death.”

If it is determined that there was a lot more to the unfortunate incident than initially met the eye, we can expect a criminal investigation.
Haskins was drafted as the 15th overall pick in 2019, with the Washington Commanders selecting him in the first round. He was released by the team before being signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he was the third-string QB behind Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph.
A toxicology report from after his death showed that he had a blood alcohol level of .24, while he also tested positive for anesthetic drugs.
