Seahawks offensive tackle Duane Brown hasn’t practiced with his team in training camp, because he is unhappy with his current contract.
Adam Schefter of ESPN noted that Brown is in a contract year and is set to make a base salary of $10 million in 2021. He will be 36-years-old before the start of the season.
“Turns out that Jamal Adams isn’t the only Seahawk seeking a long-term deal and not practicing without one,” Schefter tweeted Friday afternoon. “OT Duane Brown, in the last year of a contract scheduled to pay him $10 million this season, also is seeking an extension and isn’t pleased he hasn’t gotten one, per source.”
Brown hasn’t been made available to the media and coach Pete Carroll has been tight-lipped when responding to questions about the offensive lineman.
“I’m not worried about Duane’s football; I just want to make sure that I’m doing everything to make him strong as possible when we start,” Carroll said, via ESPN. “He’s so gifted at playing, conditioning and all of that. I would like to buy him some time here and start him down the road in a little bit. We don’t need to get him out here on the field and bang on him for a while.”
The Seahawks have not been fining Brown for missing practice thus far.

In 2020, Brown started all 16 games for the Seahawks at left tackle. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 5 offensive tackle out of 79 qualifying players.
