Drew Brees truly has nothing else to prove, even though he got screwed out of a second Super Bowl appearance a few seasons ago, but that’s neither here nor there.
Despite being 41-years-old, he is not ready to hang up his cleats and retire just yet. Back in February, he announced on Instagram that he would be returning to the Saints for his 20th season.
The future Hall of Famer has no plans to play for another franchise, and unlike past years, he isn’t expecting to demand top dollars to return.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the expectation is that Brees will receive around $25 million per year.
“From my understanding for this contract, Brees is not expected to demand top dollar,” Rapoport said. “I would expect a contract more in line with what he made last year, which was a two-year deal with an average of $25 million.”
A reduced salary is key for the franchise to spend elsewhere that will help the team make it further in the postseason. The past 3 years have been completely heartbreaking for the team and the city.
