Bryce Young size and durability has come into question recently and one person who knows how that had to go through with it during his career as well.
Drew Brees spent some time on The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday and offered his perspective of Bryce Young as an NFL prospect.
The former Alabama quarterback was measured at the NFL Combine a bit shorter than Brees and weighing less than him as well.
Brees’ size and durability were questioned at times over the years, so he knows what Young is facing.
“The only thing I’d be concerned about is maybe durability,” Brees said. “Just based on what you’ve said. If he’s a little bit more slight in stature. Is that going to be an issue making your way through a 17-game season, and some of the abuse your body takes. … Bottom line, you turn on the film with Bryce Young and the guy’s got talent. The guy makes plays, the guy throws with anticipation. He is a smart player, he knows where to go with the football. He can avoid, right, I think a lot of playing the quarterback position now is can you avoid, slide, move, buy yourself a little extra time to be able to make that play. That’s the evolution of the quarterback position we’re starting to see.”
Brees almost became a member of the Miami Dolphins while Nick Saban was still the head coach, but the team’s medical staff didn’t think Brees had healed from a knee injury and the team passed on him. If Brees had gone to Miami, Saban may have never gone back to college and create a powerhouse with the Alabama Crimson Tide, and the Saints may have never won a Super Bowl.
