Under the NFL weed policy, football players have a slippery relationship with marijuana. As it becomes legal in more states, the public and professional athletes embrace it as an alternative way to heal, but that might not be telling the full story.
Following the 2020 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), players no longer test for THC in April and August.
A video online talked about the effect of CBD vs. THC.
A sports doctor quickly responded to this since he was tagged in the video and floated a crazy theory about the effects of marijuana.
Dr. Jesse Morse said weed is not innocent while saying research shows marijuana is harmful to the bone marrow, which is what our body uses to heal.
“Marijuana users are at higher risk for delayed bone-healing, demonstrate lower bone mineral density, are at increased risk for fracture”
“Current evidence suggests that cannabidiol (CBD) may enhance bone health and metabolism, while Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), the major psychoactive component in marijuana, has an inhibitory effect.
Add in all the ‘lab-grown’ varieties now, who are no longer ‘natural,’ could this possibly be the cause of increased player injury?

The NFL hosts franchises in many states where marijuana use is legal for medicinal and recreational use, but the league always falls back on the fact that it remains a controlled substance under federal law. But now that more and more states are legalizing it, it seems the league might be moved to ban testing altogether.
The NFL regards the marijuana ban as part of collective bargaining so they would need something in return from the NFL Players Association in order to get rid of it.
