Last month, Donovan McNabb took a bunch of criticism for stating the current Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz should be off the team if he can’t get the franchise to the NFC Championship game within the next two years.
“I think in the next . . . two years or so he has to find a way to get . . . out of the second round of the playoffs,” Donovan McNabb told Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio. McNabb said that, if Wentz doesn’t do that, the Eagles should consider their options at the position, pointing out that the success of Nick Foles “proves . . . that some people can get into that offense and be very successful.”
“If [Wentz] can’t get out of the second round they should look to possibly draft another quarterback because you just don’t know about his durability,” McNabb said. “Staying healthy is very key in this league.”
Eagles fan base blasted him. Current players blasted him.
During an interview on on 97.5 The Fanatic, the former Eagles QB stated he was acting as an objective analyst and he shouldn’t be expected to talk up the Eagles just because he’s a former player.
“If I’m an analyst and a question is presented to me, I’m supposed to answer the way I see fit,” McNabb said, via Philly.com. “Sometimes when its certain people, we want to judge it or we want to have a different type of emotional feel to their answer because of who it is. And that’s unfair.”
Mcnabb claimed he was an “Eagle for life” during the interview, but his relationship with the Eagles fan base has been strained since he retired.
