Remember the whole “Tank for Tua” thing? Well, it ended up being more like “Tank for Burrow,” but either way, it’s now clear exactly how far the Miami Dolphins were willing to go in order to secure a high pick in the 2020 Draft.
Brian Flores seemingly stole all the thunder from Tom Brady’s retirement when he announced he was suing the NFL, along with the New York Giants, the Denver Broncos, and the Dolphins for racial discrimination. Flores was questionably fired by Miami less than a month ago after guiding the team to a 9-8 record. He was expected to he a highly-coveted candidate for the vacant coaching jobs in Denver and New York, but both the Broncos and Giants eventually passed on him for other options.
After missing out on those two jobs, along with others, Flores decided it was time to do something about the NFL’s flawed, seemingly racial hiring processes.
Since the announcement, we’ve been hearing plenty of the damning accusations Flores has been making about some of the parties he’s after. Among them was his claim that John Elway attended his meeting with the Broncos late and drunk.
If you thought that was bad, it pales in comparison to some of the things Dolphins owner Stephen Ross did — like offer Flores $100,000 per loss during the 2019 season, so that the team could get a higher draft pick in the highly-touted 2020 NFL Draft.

If this is true, it could place Ross in even more hot water, as you’d have to think the NFL would frown upon one of their owners going so far to throw games as to pay his coach to lose. However, seeing as how Flores is going after the NFL, as well as the Dolphins, it’s much more likely that the league tries to sweep this issue under the rug, rather than bring any additional light to it.
It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out. But if the past has taught us anything, it’s that the NFL is highly unlikely to do the right thing here.
