New York Jets’ backup quarterback Mike White is in concussion protocol, head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Monday.
Per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, White was sent into the protocol after team staffers “found irregularities with him during” Saturday’s preseason game against the Houston Texans. White was sacked in the third quarter of the contest by Adedayo Odeleye, and Skylar Thompson finished out the game for Miami.
Last season, Miami starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered three head-related injuries that caused him to miss four regular season teams as well as the club’s AFC Wild Card Game against the Buffalo Bills. With Thompson behind center, Miami narrowly fell 34-31 to the heavily-favored Bills.
The 28-year-old White signed with Miami after spending the previous four seasons on the New York Jets’ roster. Last season, White went 1-3-0 as the Jets’ starter and threw for three touchdowns and four interceptions.
White made history in his first NFL start against the Cincinnati Bengals on Halloween day in 2021, throwing for 405 yards and three touchdowns in a stunning 34-31 New York victory against the eventual AFC champs.
