Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that star wide receiver Tyreek Hill indeed had a knee procedure after the issue was raised in the latter’s arrest video on Sunday.
During his commute to the Dolphins’ season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Hard Rock Stadium, Tyreek Hill was pulled over and arrested by Miami-Dade Police Department officers for a traffic violation. Witness videos and police bodycam footage showed officers pulling Hill out of his vehicle, handcuffing and slamming him to the ground.
The officers involved have received significant public backlash for their aggressive behavior and actions towards Hill, who was calm and poised during the ordeal. His teammate, defensive tackle Calais Campbell, was also arrested after trying to de-escalate the situation.
At the 2:07 mark of the video below, Tyreek Hill warns officers that he recently had knee surgery before one of the cops (since identified as 27-year veteran Danny Torres) took him down from behind. (WARNING: VIDEO CONTAINS LANGUAGE THAT IS NSFW AND MAY BE TRIGGERING TO SOME).
Speaking to reporters ahead of Thursday’s game against the Buffalo Bills, McDaniel stated that Hill indeed had a “minor procedure” on his knee in the offseason, per David Furones of the Sun Sentinel.

Torres was placed on administrative leave on Sunday, soon after witness videos of the incident went viral. Tyreek Hill has lawyered up and is considering legal action against the department.
The 30-year-old Hill was issued citations for speeding and committing a seatbelt violation. He and Campbell were let go and got to Hard Rock Stadium well before the 1:00 p.m. EST kickoff.
Tyreek Hill Led Dolphins To Thrilling Week 1 Win
Hill put on a clinic in the Dolphins’ season-opening victory, catching seven passes for 130 yards in a 20-17 comeback win. That included an 80-yard touchdown that kick-started Miami’s comeback, which kicker Jason Sanders completed by tacking on two fourth-quarter field goals.
With the victory, Miami has now won four straight season openers. We’ll see if they can make it 2-0 against their bitter division rivals on Thursday.
