The Bears got a primary target for Justin Fields when they acquired receiver DJ Moore from the Panthers as part of the deal for the No. 1 overall draft pick in April’s draft. The Bears have searched for a bonafide No. 1 wide receiver to help Justin Fields for some time now and it appears they now have one.
While in Carolina, Moore had the chance to learn from Steve Smith Sr, who is the Panthers’ all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.
Despite the opportunity to learn from one of the greats, it did not always come easy as Smith could be quite brutal at times.
“When I had bad games he would text me and be like ‘what was that?’ in explicit ways,” Moore said. “He was kind of like a mentor. When I was doing good, he gave me praise. But if I was doing bad, it was bad, bad conversations.”
Now that he has moved on, there is no telling if their conversations will continue.
During his five seasons in Carolina, Moore had become one of the few bright spots on offense. He amassed more than 5,000 receiving yards and 21 touchdowns despite having a new quarterback and offensive coordinator almost every year of his tenure.

At only 25 years old, Moore likely still has a lot of football left to play.
