Tragedy struck the city of Houston and the football world early Saturday morning as former Houston Cougars star and Oakland Raiders first-round pick D.J. Hayden was killed in a car crash that took the live of six people.
According to reports, Hayden and three other former Cougars were in a car that was struck by another vehicle that was speeding through a red light. Early reports also indicated that the driver of the speeding vehicle was drunk.
Now, we’re getting a look at the brutal aftermath of the collision that took the lives of Hayden and five others (via KHOU 11).

Hayden was drafted by the then-Oakland Raiders with the 12th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Raiders before going on to spend time with the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars. He last played in the NFL in 2021, when he was signed to the Washington Football Team’s practice squad.
Hayden and some of his teammates were in Houston for the Cougars’ game against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday night. Two other former Cougars players who were in the car with Hayden, Zach McMillian and Ralph Oragwu, also passed away as a result of the crash.
