Deion Sanders has been doing wonders for the Colorado Buffaloes recently. But apart from his antics as a shrewd tactical genius, it does seem that Sanders also has a heart of gold. While bonding with fans is one of the most important aspects for an athlete, Sanders has taken things to a whole new level. When a superfan committed his loyalty to the Buffaloes for 100 years, Sanders could not help himself gift the fan with a memorable gift.
What Did Deion Sanders Give To The 100-Year-Old Superfan?
Players often don the jerseys of several franchises over the course of their career. However, it is the fans that stay true to one team forever. But despite such loyalty, most often than not, the efforts of a fan goes heavily unnoticed. But all that changed when Deion Sanders learned about a 100-year-old Buffaloes superfan. Overwhelmed by his unwavering loyalty to the team, Sanders built Peggy Coppom an entire apparel line on her 100th birthday.
Speaking about the unique initiative, coach Sanders mentioned that a part of the benefits would also go towards the welfare of Coppom’s family. To further show respect to the centurion, Sanders accompanied her to the media room, holding her hand, as she sat throughout the presser.
“She’s always greeted me with love, compassion, support, stability, and hope… I’m thankful to be celebrating her 100th with her. She is the epitome of CU Buffs, of Buff Nation. She is the rock that holds us all together,” said Sanders. And that was not all. During the game, which the Buffs won against the 49-24 Utah Utes, the entire Folsom Field sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to honor the centurion. Now that Peggy Coppom is in the news let’s see what she is making of all the attention coming at her.
What Does Peggy Coppom Have To Say About Deion Sanders’ Unique Gesture?
Peggy Coppom, along with her family, started to attend the Buffs’ games in 1940. Since then, it has been 58 non-stop years where Coppom has been a rock for the Buffs. Her designated seat? Seat no 29, from section 104, row 41. While Peggy lost her twin sister, Betty back in 2020, her love for the Buffaloes did not let her stop coming to the stadium ever. As a matter of fact, being a season ticket holder, Peggy Coppom had turned up to Buffaloes home games a whopping 330 times now.
