Effective immediately, the former Redskins team will call itself the “Washington Football Team” pending the adoption of a new name.
It should be noted that this is not a final renaming and re-branding for the team; this is the name it wants to use until pending adoption of a new name at some point.
The generic name garnered thousands of comments, and that included Dez Bryant.
The former Dallas Cowboys WR and former nemesis of the ex-Redskins took to Twitter and roasted the team for its temporary re-brand.
“Who you play for? The Washington football team.. naw that ain’t it.

For some reason that alone makes me feel it won’t be a football season.. I’m sad seriously.”
“No disrespect to Washington football team but that’s a soul crusher not to have a football name”
Fans will be able to purchase “Washington Football Team” merchandise from Fanatics and NFL Shop in the coming days.
The team retired the name it had used for 87 years on July 13 after launching a thorough review 10 days earlier.
