It appears as though DeVonta Smith and the Philadelphia Eagles avoided the worst case scenario with his ankle injury.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the third-year wideout “suffered a mild ankle sprain” in Sunday’s stunning home loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Fowler said the injury for Smith also isn’t “considered serious.”
Smith was seen leaving Lincoln Financial Field on crutches and in a walking boot on his right leg, naturally leading to immense concern among Eagles fans. Fortunately, it appears as though the Alabama product is fine and will be good to go for the club’s first playoff game.
Smith caught 30 passes for 30 yards before leaving Sunday’s game against the Cardinals. In 16 games this season, Smith has 81 receptions for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns (tying the career-best he set last year).
The Eagles need a victory over the New York Giants and a Dallas Cowboys’ loss or tie against the Washington Commanders to win the division. Otherwise, the Eagles will finish as the No. 5 seed and visit the winner of the NFC South (New Orleans or Tampa Bay) in the Wild Card Round.
