The Miami Dolphins should be without a key player for “several weeks” as their Week 5 victory over the New York Giants has come at a cost.
Rookie running back De’Von Achane is reportedly set to be sidelined for some time, per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, having suffered a knee injury during the 31-16 win on Sunday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter had previously noted that the player was going to get a second opinion in order to figure out whether he should be placed on the injury reserve.
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters on Monday that he did not know at what point the player suffered the injury, but a video showing Achane’s final carry shows him twisting his right leg after getting dragged down by Giants defensive lineman Leonard Williams. He would jog off the field thereafter.
The rookie didn’t carry the ball again but lined up for the third down play that saw Tua Tagovailoa throw an eight-yard pass to Raheem Mostert before the Dolphins knelt to run out the clock.
