One of the most talked about decisions of the day for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers happened before Sunday’s game even started.
Multiple reports on Sunday indicated that Devin White was inactive because of a decision by head coach Todd Bowles. He was a full participant in practice on Thursday and Friday.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that the Bucs coaching staff decided to start K.J. Britt over White ahead of Sunday’s game against the Packers but still told the former Pro Bowler he would still play in the game. That was not good enough for White so he made a decision.
White told the team he “couldn’t go” at all and the team listed him as a healthy scratch.
White missed the Buccaneers’ last two games with a knee injury.
Things have been hectic ever since Whits was not given a contract extension this past offseason. He initially asked for a trade before ultimately deciding to play under the $11.7 million club option. He had 69 tackles, an interception, and two sacks through 11 games before suffering his knee injury.
