Despite a down season in 2022, at least one player on the New England patriots believes in Mac Jones.
New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty campaigned for the young QB to remain on the team because he truly sees him as the future of the franchise.
“I’m excited for Mac,” McCourty said in an interview on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” “I think (the) sky is the limit. I think he is the future of New England. … I think you’re wrong if you don’t think that. He’s in that building right now doing different things, working with guys, talking to guys; that’s what he wants. He wants to be that quarterback.”
Jones led the Patriots to a 10-7 record and a playoff spot in his rookie season. However, things would change drastically when Josh McDaniels moved on to be head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.
In 2022, Jones would toss for 2,997 yards with 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while going 6-8 in 14 starts. This offseason, the team replaced offensive coordinator Matt Patricia with Bill O’Brien. Mac Jones reportedly got into some trouble last season by contacting Alabama.
“I think Mac has all the intangibles and the things that you want in a quarterback. He’s … going into his third year, third offensive coordinator. Hopefully, (O’Brien) is there for a while, and I think you’ll see the true growth.”
