The Detroit Lions are starting to make the roster moves necessary to bring players back from injury.
On Wednesday, the team lost a former Super Bowl pass rusher.
Detroit Lions linebacker Bruce Irvin took to social media to reveal he would be taking his talents elsewhere as it was clear he was being cut from the roster.
“@Lions – as a 12 year vet, thank you for the opportunity to be apart of your team- however I’m looking forward to what’s next,” Irvin wrote on social media.
Irvin was on the team’s practice squad, so it does not open up a spot on the 53-man roster.

This move comes as a surprise due to Detroit being able to elevate him as many times as they wanted during the postseason without having to sign him to the 53-man roster. Irvin is a veteran player who has been in the playoffs before and could be a valuable player and a veteran mind to have on the team as the team gets closer to a home playoff game at Ford Field.
Irvin only produced five pressures and one sack in three game appearances for the Lions this year.
The Lions conclude the regular season on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings, then will host a playoff game next week at Ford Field. They’re currently the No. 3 seed in the NFC and it appears they may face the Rams or the Packers if that positioning holds.
They have an outside shot at the No. 2 seed with a win against Minnesota, plus losses from the Cowboys and Eagles.
