Detroit Lions superstar wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown somehow played through a gruesome injury last season, he revealed in Netflix’s new “Receiver” docuseries.
On Wednesday, Netflix dropped all eight episodes of the “Receiver” series. It follows Amon-Ra St. Brown, George Kittle (San Francisco 49ers), Deebo Samuel (49ers), Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings) and Davante Adams (Las Vegas Raiders) from the 2023 season.
In one of the episodes, St. Brown revealed that he tore his oblique in the team’s 20-6 Week 3 victory over the Atlanta Falcons (via Pro Football Talk). In fact, doctors told the Pro Bowl wideout “tore your oblique completely off the bone.”
St. Brown ended up missing the club’s Week 5 home game against the Carolina Panthers, which Detroit went on to win 42-24. Incredibly, he didn’t miss another game and finished the season with career bests across the board: 119 receptions, 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Amon-Ra St. Brown’s career year helped the Lions to a) their first division title in 30 years b) their first playoff win since 1991 and c) their first NFC Championship Game since 1991. The Lions lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the conference title game, having blown a 17-0 lead in the gut-wrenching defeat.
