The NFL’s third-longest playoff drought remains alive for another week but it can all change fairly soon.
The Detroit Lions have a three-game lead over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North, and with only three more games to play, their magic number is now one and they can make the playoffs, win the division, and also host their first playoff game in the history of Ford Field.
Detroit is set to get a big boost on defense from C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who returned to practice Wednesday. He has not played since tearing his pectoral muscle in Week 2.
A reporter asked Gardner-Johnson if he considers the Lions a threat in the postseason and he got more than he bargained for with his answer.
“That’s the dumbest question,” Gardner-Johnson responded, via Ari Meirov. “You know we’re a threat.”
Win any game, and playoff football will officially be coming back to Detroit. Any loss by Minnesota would also do the trick.

Green Bay can no longer mathematically catch the Lions after they lost to the Buccaneers and the Lions beat the Broncos.
Detroit still has a shot at the top seed in the NFC, although that would require winning out and the 49ers losing two games.
For now, they hold the No. 3 seed in the NFL, which currently sets up a potential rematch with the Vikings in a first-round game at Ford Field.
The Lions’ last playoff win of course came in the 1991 season.
