The Detroit Lions have released a statement regarding the bodycam footage release of an incident involving star wide receiver Jameson Williams
Earlier today, WXYZ obtained video footage of officers for the Detroit Police Department pulling over a vehicle driven by Jameson Williams’ brother (Jameson was in the passenger seat) after midnight on Oct. 8.
The officers are informed that they have two guns in the vehicle. Though Jameson’s brother had a legal license for the guns, the Lions star was briefly detained after revealing that one of the guns belongs to him. Williams is then placed in handcuffs and taken into the cop car. He informs the officers that he plays for the Lions, and they eventually release him.
Per Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News, the Lions released a statement on the video involving Jameson Williams. The team said they’ve spoken to him about the matter, that he’s hired an attorney and they’ll decline furthe moment.

Per WXYZ, Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis expressed confusion about why Jameson Williams was released and not arrested:
“I feel that there was probable cause to arrest, and he was under arrest by the patrol officer. And because of that, he should have been conveyed to the Detroit Detention Center and processed.”
Durability has been a problem for Williams over his first three NFL seasons. The 2022 first-round pick missed most of his rookie season recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in Alabama’s national championship game loss to the Georgia Bulldogs.
Williams is currently serving a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s PEDs policy, which was announced last week. Williams also served a four-game suspension last year for violating the league’s gambling policy.
Jameson Williams Is Having His Best Season In 2024
It’s too early to know if Williams will face further discipline for the Lions or the NFL for this incident. The legal process still has to play out.
Through his first six games, Williams had 17 receptions for 361 yards and three touchdowns. The Lions currently sit atop the NFC standings with a 6-1 record, but it remains to be seen if they’ll have Williams over the long run for their Super Bowl quest.
