Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is expected to be the most sought-after head coaching candidate in the NFL this offseason.
The 37-year-old is the latest in a trend of offensive gurus to be highly coveted to lead organizations around the NFL as he has had the Lions ranked top five in offense each of the past two seasons.
Teams may want him but they may stray away due to his rumored contract demands.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that Johnson has an asking price “at least or around $15M/year” in order for him to be a head coach.
One team looking for a coach is the Los Angeles Chargers who fired head coach Brandon Staley the day after the Chargers were dominated by the Las Vegas Raiders 63-21. The Chargers are considered to be one of the top landing spots for Johnson for multiple reasons.
Johnson has helped craft Jared Goff into playing some of the best football of his career, and the team may want him to do the same for Justin Herbert.

Austin Ekeler might love him as well as Johnson has coached the Lions to the third-best rushing unit in the NFL right now.
Johnson first got to the Lions in 2019 and joined as an offensive quality control coach under Matt Patricia and he worked his way up to tight ends coach, passing game coordinator, and ultimately offensive coordinator the past two years.
Now, a head coaching position is in his future.
