The Detroit Lions could have something major in store for fans as they’re teasing the release of an alternate helmet.
Such developments are always big for supporters. It doesn’t matter how bad the record was in the last season or how disappointing a team has been over a number of years, uniform and helmet drops are always reasons for excitement.
Having said as much, the Lions posted a 9-8 record in 2022 but still failed to make the playoffs. Of course, fans will be encouraged by the improvements made over the course of the campaign and they should some extra incentive for cheer this Wednesday.
The team took to Twitter on Monday night to post a photo of a retro Honolulu blue Ford Mustang bearing a license plate reading “ALT HMT.” There’s no way this does not mean “alternate helmet,” right?
The date, June 21, is also written on the back of the car. We already know this one means Wednesday…
We can also assume that the Mustang is representative of a retro look, plus the plate also features the word “Historical.”

Team president Rob Wood had previously announced plans for the debut of new alternate helmets this year, while the team is also expected to unveil new uniforms for the 2024/25 season.
We can’t be sure when the Lions plan to use the new headgear, but that could be part of Wednesday’s revelation.
