The Detroit Lions will not be having Michael Badgley as a weapon during the 2024 NFL season.
The team suffered a terrible loss before Thursday’s training camp practice as kicker Michael Badgley suffered a torn hamstring and was subsequently put on injured reserve.
According to Tim Twentyman of the team’s official website, the Lions placed him there after he suffered a “severe” injury during warmups before the start of practice.
This is a tough break for Michael Badgley, who is entering his second full season with the Lions and just signed a one-year contract to return to the club in February.

Michael Badgley Has Bounced Around A Ton In The League Before Stint With The Lions
28-year-old kicker Michael Badgley is set to miss his second year with the Detroit Lions after suffering a “severe” injury in warmups.
This is a bad break for him, as he has bounced around to quite a few teams since originally signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2018. Things did not work out there, and he was waived before the start of the regular season.
He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers that same year and, according to ESPN, went 15-of-16 on field goal attempts and 27-of-28 on extra points during his rookie season.
Unfortunately, a groin injury made him miss the first eight weeks of the 2019 season. He would go on to play all 16 games for the Chargers in 2020 and signed with the Tennessee Titans as a free agent in 2021.
Michael Badgley would be waived after one game and joined the Colts practice squad a few weeks later. Following that stint, he joined the Chicago Bears prior to Week 4 of the 2022 season, only appearing in one game and soon being released.
The Lions signed Badgley to their practice squad, and he would finish the year with them. He then had stints with the Washington Commanders and Tennessee Titans in the summer of 2023 but got released by both franchises.
He would make his return to the Lions practice squad last year and would be elevated to the active squad.
Badgley went 7-of-7 on field goals and 24-of-26 on extra points in the regular season and postseason.
