Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell has offered a massive update regarding star running back David Montgomery following his MCL injury.
It was initially feared that Montgomery would be out until next season, but he is expected to return for his team’s first playoff game.
Campbell claimed that the running back would have season-ending surgery when he went down in mid-December. However, the player sought additional opinions and was told he could return after a few weeks of rest.
He missed the last three games of the season and is now set for another two weeks of rest heading into the divisional round.
Meanwhile, the head coach spoke to reporters on Tuesday and revealed he expects the RB to be back in time for the playoff game.
Montgomery registered 1,371 yards and 11 touchdowns during the regular season and has been a huge miss for the Lions. But Jahmyr Gibbs has been excellent in his absence and has shown that he could be the lead running back for the team if needs be.

Dan Campbell Shares Prognosis On Aidan Hutchinson Following Good News David Montgomery
Fans hope that star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson can also make a return after breaking his leg in October.
Hutchinson has insisted that he will return to action as long as Detroit makes it to the Super Bowl. And Dan Campbell is not counting him out.
“I’m going to say it again, he has a season-ending injury,” the coach said, “but if anybody can come back from this, it would be Aidan is the best way to say it.”
The Lions have been hit with a myriad of injuries heading into the playoffs, but having Montgomery back will be huge for them.
