Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell left quite the lasting first impression two years ago when he stated that his players would “bite a kneecap off” of opponents during his introductory press conference.
That soundbite continues to live on in NFL lore. Campbell quickly became one of the NFL’s most popular personalities following that simple press conference, but he is by no means a one-hit wonder with soundbites.
Per Jeff Risdon, Campbell had another epic quote when he explained how to they grade prospects at the NFL Combine.
“You grade off tape, not what happens with guys running around in pajamas,” Campbell said.
Well, there’s another quote to add to the library of Dan Campbell’s greatest soundbites.
Campbell and the Lions are coming off a surprising 9-8 season, the franchise’s first winning campaign since 2017. Detroit holds four draft selections in the top 55: No. 6, No. 18, No. 48 and No. 55 overall.

The No. 6 selection is courtesy of the Los Angeles Rams from the 2021 Matthew Stafford blockbuster trade. The defending Super Bowl champions limped to a 5-12 record and wound up giving Detroit a much higher pick this year than anyone could have predicted.
Throw in all that extra cap space, and the Lions are well-equipped to make plenty of big moves in the offseason. The organization’s future hasn’t looked this bright in quite some time, but Campbell and GM Brad Holmes appear to have the Lions on the right tack.
