The Detroit Lions have had the luxury of having a dream 2024 season, but they have now run into some off-the-field issues with a player on the team.
Lions safety Brandon Joseph was placed in police custody on Saturday. According to the Detroit Free Press, Joseph was pulled over for speeding and arrested on suspicion of operating under the influence.
His decision has cost him dearly, as the team has now released him from the roster.
“Dearborn Heights police tell me Brandon Joseph, who was waived by the Lions this afternoon, was pulled over for speeding on Michigan Avenue and arrested for suspicion of operating under the influence. They stress he was completely compliant, detained, and released,” Dave Birkett reported.
Joseph will “go through the court process like anybody else,” police said per the report.
His release from the Detroit Lions had just come on the heels of special teams coordinator Dave Fipp praising him for his work on the field last week against the Buffalo Bills.
Joseph landed in Detroit after going undrafted in the 2023 draft.

Detroit Lions Fighting For Number One Seed In NFC
The Detroit Lions can earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs for the first time in the Super Bowl era just by winning every game they have left in the regular season.
The Lions’ 11-game winning streak ended last week, as they fell to 12-2 on the season.
They’re now tied with the Philadelphia Eagles atop the conference, and the race for the No. 1 seed will be the focus as the regular season goes on.
If the Lions beat the Bears, 49ers, and Vikings over the next three weeks, they are guaranteed to earn a first-round bye and home-field advantage.
The Eagles and Lions won’t meet, which means we will have to turn to NFL tiebreakers if both teams finish with the same record.
