The Detroit Lions are experiencing a massive injury crisis as they head into the playoffs, with David Montgomery now thought to be done for the season.
The star running back reportedly sustained an MCL injury during his team’s 48-42 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Montgomery was undergoing additional testing on Monday and is said to be prepared to seek a second opinion on whatever doctors tell him. While the team is yet to make an official announcement, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that “there are people in the Lions’ organization who believe that David Montgomery will be lost for the season.”
David Montgomery Injury Compounds Dreadful Weekend For Lions
The David Montgomery situation marks a third significant loss for the Lions, who are also reeling from season-ending injuries to cornerback Khalil Dorsey and defensive lineman Alim McNeil.
On a brighter note, the team can still depend on Jahmyr Gibbs, who made the All-Rookie Team and the Pro Bowl last season. Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki could also be called upon to help fill the void when the Lions play the Chicago Bears next weekend.
