Players getting signed by the NFL that played in the XFL continue to show that the spring league can be a success.
Over 50 XFL players have now signed NFL contracts. Houston Roughnecks LS Alex Mollette is just the latest to take his talents to the NFL.
According to MLive.com, the Detroit Lions are signing interior offensive lineman Alex Mollette to a deal. The team made this move came after Lions center Ross Pierschbacher was released with an injury settlement.
Alex Mollette, the former Indianapolis Colt, played for the Houston Roughnecks during the XFL’s 2023 season. He helped the team win the South Division, ultimately making the playoffs with a 7-3 record.
The 25-year-old started at center for Houston and helped pave the way for one of the XFL’s top ground games. The team finished the season second in rushing yards and third in yards per carry. Mollette was the highest-graded center in the league, with an overall grade of 74.6. He was particularly great as a pass blocker (86.2 grade). He only allowed four pressures and a single sack over 11 games, according to PFF.
The undrafted free agent from Marshall started 46 games at center and guard for the Thundering Herd. When the Mollette signing becomes official, the Lions’ roster will be full once again.
