The Detroit Lions have pulled off a colossal trade ahead of the NFL’s Tuesday afternoon deadline, acquiring pass rusher Za’Darius Smith in a blockbuster deal with the Cleveland Browns.
The Lions were keen on adding a rusher to their defense after losing Aidan Hutchinson to a season-ending injury and have now gotten their man.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Cleveland is set to receive a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-rounder in exchange for Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
“Sources: The #Browns are trading standout edge Za’Darius Smith to the #Lions, who add a key presence on the edge to help make up for the loss of Aidan Hutchinson,” Rapoport reported on Tuesday morning.
“It’s Smith and a 2026 7th going to Detroit for a 2025 5th and a 2026 6th. A major move.”
