The wild saga surrounding Joe Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury that the Cincinnati Bengals failed to report prior to their Thursday night game against the Baltimore Ravens appears to finally be coming to an end.
And, thankfully, it’s all starting to make sense now.
One week ago, it was reported that the NFL was looking into Burrow’s injury after Burrow was seen entering the stadium prior to the team’s week 11 game with a cast on his right wrist. The did not place Burrow on their injury report heading into the game, but the footage spread like wildfire on social media prior to the contest, as someone was able to download the proof before the Bengals could delete it from their social media page.
As luck would have it, Burrow would actually go on to suffer a season-ending wrist injury to his throwing hand just hours later, leading many to wonder whether the team was covering up the injury all along.
The NFL has investigated the matter, and it appears as though there’s a perfect explanation for everything.
According to the information they received thus far, it does not appear as though Burrow was at all injured entering the game. The Bengals front office has turned over hours of footage, and it proves that their franchise signal-caller took all of the practice reps and did not receive any extra medical attention on his wrist during the team’s preparation leading up to their week 11 contest.

It also notes that Burrow’s injury is “acute” and did not develop over time, according to the Bengals’ medical staff.
Via NFL.com:
Sources familiar with the organization say the Bengals have turned in hours of footage to the NFL showing that Burrow was healthy prior to the game. According to those who have seen the footage, Burrow threw the ball normally during practice, without a brace and took all of his normal reps. It also includes documentation from medical personnel stating Burrow ‘s injury was “acute,” as Taylor has explained. It was not, the doctors say, an injury that happened over time, sources say.
As for the cast Burrow was seen wearing to the game, that was a compression sleeve that the quarterback wears to avoid swelling during flights.
So there you have it. While the NFL has not officially released a statement on the matter, it doesn’t sound like anything will come out of this investigation, other than an explanation of what went down.
As for the Bengals, they’ll take on the Steelers at home today with Jake Browning taking over under center. At 5-5, their playoff hopes are still alive, but not by much… Especially without Joe Burrow on the field to lead them anymore.
