With a considerable portion of quarterbacks struggling through the first month of 2023, it’s certainly only a matter of time until we see several changes at the game’s most important position.
SportsBetting.ag listed new betting odds as to which starting quarterbacks are most likely to get benched first this year. Atlanta Falcons’ sophomore Desmond Ridder is the overwhelming favorite at +100, followed by Mac Jones of the New England Patriots (+500).
Sam Howell of the Washington Commanders has the third-best odds at (+900), with Ryan Tannehill (Tennessee Titans), Justin Fields (Chicago Bears), Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos) and Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh Steelers) all sharing the next-best odds at +1000.
The Falcons have lost their last two games, and Ridder’s play has been a key reason behind the mini losing skid. Ridder has tossed 201 yards or less in three of his four outings, and he has just three touchdowns against as many interceptions.
Atlanta has one of the game’s best backup quarterbacks in Taylor Heinicke. He went 5-3-1 with Washington last year and had 12 touchdowns against six interceptions, nearly leading them to the postseason.

So if Ridder struggles this Sunday, don’t be surprised if Heinicke finally gets a look in a star-studded offense led by Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts and Drake London.
Jones is also a potential benching candidate to watch in New England, considering that backup Bailey Zappe looked like the better QB in the limited action he saw last year.
