The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense was already scary enough, but they could be a downright nightmare for opposing offense this season following their latest addition.
According to reports, Mike Tomlin’s club has signed former All-Pro cornerback Desmond King. The 28-year-old veteran was released by the Houston Texans in a surprise move on cutdown day.
King is entering his seventh season in the NFL. He was taken in the fifth-round of the 2017 draft by the Los Angeles Chargers. After three-and-a-half seasons there, he was shipped to the Tennessee Titans at the 2020 trade deadline.
The Houston Texans signed the former Iowa Hawkeyes standout during the 2021 offseason. In two seasons with the club, King played in 33 games, recording 182 tackles and five interceptions.
Desmond King now joins a Steelers defense that’s led by some big-name stars in T.J. Watt, Cameron Heyward and Minkah Fitzpatrick. He will be competing for a starting spot at corner with the likes of Levi Wallace, Patrick Peterson and rookie second-round-pick Joey Porter Jr.
The Steelers open up their season on September 10, when they host the San Francisco 49ers.
