The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly trading a veteran defensive back and will release him if they aren’t able to find a trade partner.
Tom Pelissero is reporting that cornerback Desmond King has been informed by the team that they are planning to release him if he isn’t traded this month.
“The #Steelers informed veteran CB Desmond King they plan to release him if they can’t find a trade partner, per source,” Pelissero posted on X this week. “King has played in 98 career games (53 starts). An experienced nickel available.”
King has played for four NFL teams since he was drafted out of Iowa by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017. A former fifth-round pick, the 28-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Houston Texans before he was released in late August and signed a one-year deal with the Steelers thereafter. He has also played for the Tennessee Titans.
The CB has recorded 424 tackles, nine interceptions, 8.5 sacks, five fumble recoveries, and four forced fumbles over the span of his career.
As to whether another team opts to trade for him or he gets released remains to be seen.
