Deshaun Watson has said little to nothing for over a year since sexual allegations came out against him, but his QB coach has a ton to say.
Deshaun Watson remains under contract with the Houston Texans entering the 2022 offseason, but it is not expected to stay that way.
Watson’s private quarterback coach, Quincy Avery, recently said on The Ringer’s Ryen Russillo Podcast that the former first-rounder was the reason for Houston’s success since arriving in 2017. He then took an insane shot at receiving corps in 2020.
Via the Houston Chronicle:
“(People) might have forgot that his last year in Houston, when he played, he was carrying like three guys who could have been working at your local Walmart at the receiver position and he went absolutely berserk,” Avery said. “If he gets on a team with any sort of talent around him, somebody’s going to have to really watch out.”
After leading the league with 4,823 passing yards on a team that went 4-12 in 2020, the relationship with the team went down quickly and Watson would soon demand a trade. Even after the team announced the signing of head coach David Culley, Watson stayed true to his demand.
That demand became a footnote after he got accused of sexual misconduct and assault by numerous women over several days in the offseason.
