Representatives for Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson are said to be “displeased” with Monday’s announcement of a six-game suspension levied by former judge Sue Robinson and believe there should be no suspension, per Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.
As for the NFL, they sought an indefinite suspension of no shorter than one year, according to Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal. The league has three days to send out an appeal.
The 26-year-old was accused of sexual assault or sexual misconduct by at least 25 women who filed civil lawsuits against him. He settled all but one of the lawsuits, with three of them coming hours before his suspension announcement.
In March, two grand juries declined to file criminal charges against Watson. Soon after, the Houston Texans would trade him to the Cleveland Browns.
Despite the lack of criminal charges, the NFL was still pushing for a lengthy suspension. As you may remember, both Ben Roethlisberger and Ezekiel Elliott were suspended six games without criminal charges. Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault in 2010, while Elliott was accused of domestic violence in 2016.
The NFL Players Association released a statement Sunday saying it would accept Robinson’s ruling and not appeal the decision. They also asked for the league to not appeal as well.

Even with the suspension, Watson loses just $333,333 in salary for the 2022 season.
