The fallout from Deshaun Watson not being traded to the Atlanta Falcons continued when news broke regarding who Watson was recruiting to come to the ATL with him.
The quarterback was so close to choosing his hometown team that he reportedly spoke to free agents about following him to Georgia. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Watson had discussions with running back Leonard Fournette and wide receiver Jarvis Landry about playing together in Atlanta.
The Cleveland Browns were first said to be out of the discussions, but then came back with a massive guaranteed contract offer. That was enough to get the deal done and completely change the entire landscape of the AFC North division, as well as the conference.
Cleveland’s offer of a fully guaranteed five-year deal worth $230 million was too good for Watson to pass up.
On Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed Fournette to a three-year, $21 million deal and the Browns are reportedly trying to bring Landry back to the team after granting his release. The 29-year-old could return to the Browns after the team restructured the contract of the recently acquired Amari Cooper.
Watson still faces 22 active civil lawsuits that include graphic accounts of sexual harassment and assault.
